Ovulation
The release of a mature egg from the ovary, usually mid-cycle, marking the most fertile point of the cycle.
Ovulation is triggered by a surge in luteinising hormone (LH). The released egg can be fertilised for about 12–24 hours, but the fertile window is longer because sperm survive several days.
